FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky State women's basketball team held off the Spring Hill Badgers for a 70-62 victory Monday night at the William Exum Center.
Freshman
Aaliyah Hayes led the Thorobreds, shooting over 60% from the field (8-of-13) and beyond the arc (6-of-10) to lead the contest with 23 points.
Junior
Diara McBroom grabbed 10 rebounds, four assists, and two steals during the night.
The first quarter would be tightly contested, with seven lead changes and four ties. In the final minute,
Diara McBroom converted her three-point play to put the Thorobreds ahead 17-16 at the end of the quarter.
Naja Fenelon's floating jump shot at the 3:53 mark of the second quarter gave Kentucky State its largest lead, a 13-point advantage at 35-22.
Aaliyah Hayes' last-second jump shot extended Kentucky State's lead to 37-31 at halftime.
Spring Hill endured a three-minute scoring drought, allowing Kentucky State to capitalize with a 12-0 run, highlighted by four consecutive three-pointers from Hayes. This gave the Thorobreds a 51-37 with 3:03 remaining in the third quarter.
Kentucky State sank four of six free throws in the final minutes to hold off Spring Hill, securing a 70-62 victory.

The Thorobreds will play the rest of their regular season games on the road beginning at rival Central State Saturday, Feb. 22.
