SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After the cancelation of their weekend slate Kentucky State softball split the SIAC vs. CIAA Challenge after a 5-0 win against Livingstone on Friday.
Kentucky State tallied nine hits in their Challenge opener, highlighted by a double from
Jorden Bowman. Elizabeth City State recorded eight hits and plated three runs to secure a 3-1 victory.
The Vikings made their scoring push with three unearned runs in the fourth inning.
At the top of the sixth inning the double by Bowman batted in Andraylyn Brown to score the lone run for the Thorobreds.
Kayla West took the loss on the mound pitching for six innings that included five strikeouts.
In Friday's second game Kentucky State took a 5-0 win over Livingstone, while leading the contest with eight hits.
Savannah Teale sent
Aaliyah Long home on a double into center field at the top of the second. This was followed with a single from
Makayla Coffey that allowed Teale to score on the throw from center field.
Regan Dudley scored on a wild pitch to give the Thorobreds a 3-0 lead through two innings.
Teale continued to stay in her groove as she singled into center field that sent in Bowman home to add one run in the third inning.
Laila Troxler's double to left field drove in Teale, capping Kentucky State's 5-0 victory.
UP NEXT
The Thorobreds will return to play in the Bluegrass State as they head to Wilmore, Kentucky for a doubleheader with Asbury beginning at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21.
