MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Kentucky State women's basketball struggled with shooting throughout the night, falling 64-46 to LeMoyne-Owen on Monday in Memphis, Tennessee.
Senior forward
Mondrea Williams led the Thorobreds with 16 points, eight rebounds, and three steals.
The Magicians opened the game with a 5-0 run, holding the Thorobreds scoreless for the first five minutes until
Jordan Isom ended the drought with a three-pointer at the 5:05 mark of the first quarter. LeMoyne-Owen went on to outscore Kentucky State 17-9 by the end of the period.
Following a nearly two-minute scoring drought by both teams, Kentucky State responded with a 5-1 run, trimming the LeMoyne-Owen lead to 20-18 with 4:50 remaining in the second quarter.
Aaliyah Hayes tied the game (20-20) with a putback layup, then sank both free throws to give the Thorobreds a 22-20 lead with 4:43 left in the half.
The Thorobreds held the Magicians to eight points in the second quarter to take a one-point 26-25 halftime lead.
In the second quarter, the Magicians went on a 7-0 run to take a 32-30 lead with 4:32 remaining.
Naja Fenelon responded by sinking both free throws to tie the game at 32-all. LeMoyne-Owen regained momentum and closed the half with a 43-37 lead.
A slow start for the Thorobreds allowed the Magicians to go on a run, extending their lead to 50-40 with 5:54 remaining in the period.
LeMoyne-Owen continued to find their groove, going on a late 16-3 run to defeat Kentucky State 64-46.
