JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Kentucky State softball opened its 2025 season with a seventh-inning rally to defeat Concord before falling 8-0 to Carson-Newman, splitting its opening weekend in Jefferson City, Tennessee.
Junior
Andralyn Brown started the weekend hot, going 5-of-7 at the plate while scoring one run and batting in one runner.
GAME ONE: KENTUCKY STATE 0, CARSON-NEWMAN 8
Carson-Newman took control early, scoring three runs in the first inning on a bases-clearing triple by Kennady Warder. The Eagles added three more in the second, highlighted by a two-run double from Macauley Bailey, and tacked on two in the fifth to seal the run-rule victory.
In the fourth inning, Kentucky State was held to just one hit, a single by
Jorden Bowman. Carson-Newman's Syerra Rogers took the win.
GAME TWO: KENTUCKY STATE 7, CONCORD 5
Trailing 4-0 entering the final frame, the Thorobreds erupted for seven runs on six hits.
Jorden Bowman ignited the rally with a two-run double, while
Aaliyah Long and
Savannah Teale each added RBI singles to tie the game.
Makayla Coffey then delivered the go-ahead RBI infield single, and
Katie Garrett followed with an RBI hit to extend the lead. Brown capped the surge with an RBI single to make it 7-4.
Concord responded with a run in the bottom half, but Kentucky State held on as
Theresa Pelland and
Lisuanet Flores combined for the win in the circle.
Brown led the offense with a 5-for-5 performance and an RBI, while Bowman finished 1-for-5 with two RBIs.
UP NEXT
The Thorobreds will have just over a week until they are back in action as they head to Spartanburg, South Carolina, Feb. 14-16 for the SIAC vs CIAA Challenge.
