FRANKFORT, Ky.  –  Senior guard Lavar Miller Jr. and Junior guard Aziel Blackwell combine for 52 points in 91-85 loss to Central State Saturday afternoon in Exum.

Blackwell made nine field goals, including three from beyond the arc, to finish with 26 points. Miller matched him with 26 points, hitting 10 field goals and five three-pointers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Marauders struck first, but Blackwell quickly responded with a layup before Central State went on a 7-0 run to take a 9-2 lead at the 15:47 mark of the first half.

Near the midpoint of the half, Kentucky State answered with a 7-0 run of its own, capped by a three-pointer from Miller, to take its first lead at 16-15 with 10:04 remaining.

Central State briefly regained the lead before Morgan Brewer knocked down a three-pointer to tie the game and put the Thorobreds ahead 22-21 at the 8:01 mark of the first half. The game saw two more ties before a pair of free throws by Central State gave the Marauders a 39-36 advantage.

In the final two minutes of the first half the Marauders tied the game 35-35 at 1:29 and went on to take a 39-36 lead going into halftime.

The Thorobreds fought to early in the second half as a three-pointer from Miller tied the game 41-41 at 18:46 and again on a pair of made free-throws from Blackwell that put the game at 43-43 with 18:03 remaining in the first half.

A Marauder's free-throw put them ahead by a 17 point, 80-63 lead with 6:36 left in regulation.

A second-chance tip-in layup by Daughtery brought the Thorobreds to within in single digits of the 86-83 Central State lead. The Marauders would hold off the Thorobreds and take a 91-85 lead.
