FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State women's basketball held Benedict to single digits in the third quarter to spark a 75-63 win over the Tigers.
Aaliyah Hayes made nine field goals and went 4-of-6 from the three-point line to lead all-scorer's with 22 points.
Going 5-of-7 at the free-throw line and making four shots from the field led a
Alycia Triplett to 13 points along with 10 rebounds earned a double-double for the contest.
The first quarter consisted of seven lead changes and three ties with the Thorobreds edging the Tigers 18-17.
A seven-point Kentucky State run stretched into a 10-point, 40-30 lead with 38 seconds left in the half. The Tigers capitalized on a Thorobreds turnover to trim the margin to 40-32 at halftime.
Hayes knocked down a three-pointer in the final seconds of the third quarter to push Kentucky State's lead to 53-41 heading into the fourth.
Kentucky State took their largest lead of the night of 18-points, on a jumper just outside the paint from Hayes with 2:01 remaining in regulation. Hayes scored the final basket of the contest to secure a 75-63 victory.
