National Outlook
Kentucky State enters the week ranked No. 7 in NCAA Division II Super Region Two, putting the Thorobreds in a prime position to contend for the program's first-ever playoff appearance. The top seven teams in each region advance to the NCAA Division II Football Championship, with official selections set to be announced on Sunday, Nov. 16.
By the Numbers
Kentucky State enters Saturday's matchup riding a historic run that has rewritten several pages of the program's record book.
The Thorobreds have won eight games this season, their most since 1977, when they finished 8-2-1. The total is just one shy of the school record of nine wins set in 1935. It marks only the fifth time since 1930 that Kentucky State has won eight or more games in a season (1934, 1935, 1971, 1977, 2025).
Kentucky State has won 11 of its last 13 games and 13 of its last 16 overall, including seven straight victories. The seven-game win streak is the program's longest in a single season since 1977, and only the second streak of seven or more wins since 1950. It also ranks as just the sixth time in program history the Thorobreds have won seven consecutive games.
The Thorobreds finished SIAC play with a 7-1 record — the best in school history — setting a new program mark for conference wins in a single season.
Kentucky State closed out league play with a dominant 55-0 win over Lane on Nov. 8. The 55 points were the program's most in a game since a 63-0 victory over Central State in 2021, and the 55-point margin marked the team's largest since that same contest. It was also the Thorobreds' first shutout since 2021 and their first against Lane since 1992, when they earned a 34-0 victory. The 55-point defeat was Lane's worst since a 62-0 loss to West Georgia in 1992.
Offensively, Kentucky State has scored 31 or more points in seven of its last eight games.
