WILBERFORCE, Ohio – Kentucky State women's volleyball rallied in the fourth and fifth sets to defeat rival Central State 3-2 on Friday night in Wilberforce.
Three Thorobreds finished with double-digit kills, led by
Cydne Clayton's 13, while
Ananiah Huguely and
Laila Wheaton added 10 apiece.
Sienna Stewart and
Jada Knight each tallied two of the team's six service aces.
Kentucky State opened the match with a 25-21 victory in the first set, powered by four kills from Clayton and one each from
Amber Gregory and Wheaton. Central State responded with 11 kills and five aces to take the second set 25-13, evening the match at 1-1.
The Marauders grabbed a 2-1 lead after taking the third set 25-20 behind an 18-kill performance, but the Thorobreds refused to fold. In a back-and-forth fourth set featuring 12 ties and five lead changes, Kentucky State prevailed 25-20 behind strong play from Huguely,
Jayla Collins, and Clayton, each with three kills, and two aces from Stewart.
The Thorobreds carried that momentum into the decisive fifth set, closing out the match with a 15-10 win fueled by two service aces from Knight and seven team kills.
