Kentucky State Splits Opening Day at SIAC Cluster

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Kentucky State volleyball opened play at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Cluster on Friday with a five-set win over Clark Atlanta before falling in four sets to Allen Friday.
 
In the opening match, the Thorobreds outlasted Clark Atlanta in a thrilling 3–2 victory (21–25, 25–23, 25–21, 23–25, 15–11)
 
Kentucky State spread its attack across the floor, led by Ananiah Huguely, who posted 12 kills and 11 digs to record a double-double. Sydnee Breda-Nixon added nine kills with a .292 hitting percentage and three blocks, while Jayla Collins hit an efficient .500 with eight kills and five blocks.
 
Setter Sienna Stewart paced the offense with 19 assists and added three service aces, while Amber Gregory tallied nine assists and two aces. Defensively, Cydne Clayton and Zora Nooks anchored the back row with 13 digs apiece, and the Thorobreds totaled nine team blocks in the victory. The win marked Kentucky State's second SIAC win of the season.
 
In the afternoon contest, Kentucky State fell 3–1 to Allen (25–14, 11–25, 22–25, 11–25)
 
After taking the first set behind a dominant .381 hitting performance, the Thorobreds couldn't maintain momentum as Allen's offense found its rhythm. Cydne Clayton led KSU with 13 kills and five digs, while Laila Wheaton added eight kills and five total blocks. Jada Knight distributed 11 assists and fired five service aces, and Leah Tubbs and Sydnee Breda-Nixon chipped in four kills each.
 
As a team, Kentucky State finished the day hitting .168 in the second match and .084 in the opener, totaling 16 service aces and 17 team blocks across both contests.
 
The Thorobreds (3–16, 2–7 SIAC) continue SIAC Cluster play Saturday in Memphis, looking to build on their early success from the five-set victory over Clark Atlanta.
