TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Ogien Ayo Scores 24 Points,
Gregory Melvin Adds Double-Double in Kentucky State's 83-73 Loss at Tuskegee Monday Afternoon.
Ogien Ayo led the Thorobreds with 24 points, shooting an impressive 10-of-19 from the field and a perfect 2-of-2 from beyond the arc.
Gregory Melvin recorded a double-double, pacing Kentucky State with 13 rebounds while adding 14 points.
Keon Henderson also made a significant impact, dishing out a game-high 10 assists.
Melvin opened the scoring for Kentucky State with a three-pointer early in the first half. Tuskegee briefly surged ahead, but Ayo's three-point play tied the game at 12-12 with 13:11 remaining.
A 9-2 run by the Thorobreds, capped by a free throw from Ayo, brought the game to a 31-31 deadlock at the 4:24 mark. Kentucky State's defense held Tuskegee scoreless for over a minute late in the half, keeping the Golden Tigers from widening their 41-38 advantage heading into the break.
A 13-2 run by Tuskegee was halted by a three-pointer from
Lavar Miller Jr., cutting the deficit to 56-47 with 14:20 remaining in the second half. However, the Golden Tigers maintained control for the rest of the game, defeating Kentucky State 83-73.
Kentucky State will return home for a week of rest before hosting LeMoyne-Owen Jan. 27 at 5:30 p.m. inside the Exum Center.
