COLUMBIA, S.C.   – Allen edged past Kentucky State 63-58, with the Yellow Jackets capitalizing on the Thorobreds' fouls by shooting an efficient 75% (18-of-24) from the free-throw line.
 
Jeana Weatherspoon recorded her second double-double of the season, leading the Thorobreds with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Mondrea Williams opened the scoring for the Thorobreds, who held the Yellow Jackets to just three points in the first quarter. A jumper by 
Shannon Niles extended the Thorobreds' lead to 10-3 with 3:17 left in the period.
 
At 7:11 in the second quarter, Taliah Wesley's layup gave the Yellow Jackets their first lead. Later in the quarter, a three-pointer with 1:51 remaining extended their advantage to eight points, 30-22.
 
Naja Fenelon tied the game at 30-30 in the third quarter with a jumper. The Yellow Jackets briefly regained the lead before 
Diara McBroom's layup evened the score at 32-32 with 8:17 remaining. The Yellow Jackets then surged ahead, building their largest lead of the game—16 points, 51-35—just under 30 seconds before the quarter ended.
 
The Thorobreds made multiple late pushes in the fourth quarter, narrowing the Yellow Jackets' lead to single digits. However, Allen secured a 63-58 victory over the Thorobreds.
 
Road play continues in Columbia, South Carolina, as the Thorobreds face Benedict on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 1 p.m.
