FRANKFORT, Ky. – Four Thorobreds scored 20 or more in a controlling 109-91 win over Lane Tuesday night.
Jaylen Daughtery went 3-of-3 at the charity strip, 1-of-1 from beyond the arc, and shot over 90% (10-of-11) from the field to lead Kentucky State with 24 points.
Shooting a perfect 8-of-8 at the charity stripe combined with six shots from the field led to 21 points alongside 16 led to another double-double on the season for
Ogien Ayo.
Also contributing to the Kentucky State win was
Lavar Miller Jr., who scored 22 points on six three-pointers, and
Gregory Melvin, who scored 20 points.
At the 8:44 mark of the first half, the Thorobreds took a 13-point 33-19 lead, their most significant of the half. Kentucky State would capitalize on the 10 turnovers from Lane that turned into 13 points while scoring 14 on Fast Breaks, helping the Thorobreds take a 49-42 lead going into halftime.
The Thorobreds controlled the second half, maintaining their lead for over 19 minutes while taking their largest lead of 20 points (99-79) with 2:53 remaining in regulation. Kentucky State ended the half shooting 4-of-5 from the field to defeat the Dragon 109-91.
Kentucky State will head to Mobile, Alabama, for a SIAC contest on Saturday, Jan. 18, against Spring Hill; tip-off is slated for 3:00 p.m. CT.
