MOBILE, Ala. – Naja Fenelon led all scorers with 24 points as the Kentucky State women's basketball team secured a 77-58 victory over Spring Hill on Saturday afternoon.
In the second half, the Thorobreds shot a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range in the third quarter and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the fourth.
Spring Hill opened the first quarter with seven straight points before Fenelon put Kentucky State on the board with two free throws. Weatherspoon scored the Thorobreds' final points of the quarter at the 2:12 mark, but they trailed 19-10 at the end of the period.
Amaris Timmons hit one of two free throws to tie the game at 19-19 with 7:55 left in the second quarter. Spring Hill evened the score again at the 6:11 mark, but two free throws from
Aaliyah Hayes gave Kentucky State a 23-21 lead midway through the quarter. The Thorobreds briefly extended their advantage, but a late layup by the Badgers in the final seconds put Spring Hill ahead 30-29 at halftime.
Khalia Bryant made an early statement for the Badgers with a three-pointer at the 8:31 mark of the third quarter. Weatherspoon responded with a three-pointer in the final seconds of the quarter, giving the Thorobreds a 54-42 lead heading into the fourth.
The Thorobreds maintained their momentum in the fourth quarter, closing the game with a 13-3 run to secure a dominant 77-58 victory over the Badgers.
Kentucky State continues road play at Tuskegee Monday, Jan. 20, tip is slated for 1 p.m. CT.
