MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Kentucky State softball scores 48 runs in 4-0 series sweep of the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians in a pair of doubleheaders in Memphis, Tennessee.
Game One: LeMoyne Owen – 6 Kentucky State – 9
In game one of four the Thorobreds defeated the Magicians 9-6 with 17 hits and no errors. T. Pelland earned the win striking out five batters through seven innings.
The Thorobreds scored three runs in the second followed with four runs in the fifth and two runs in the seventh to secure the win.
Aaliyah Yates,
Alarryia Jones,
Imani Reed and
Tommya Davis all put doubles in the scorebook.
Savannah Teale and
Laila Troxler led the Thorobreds at the plate with three hits each.
Game Two: LeMoyne Owen – 3 Kentucky State – 13, 6 innings.
Eight runs in the fourth inning and four in the sixth inning led to a 13-3 win for Kentucky State. The Thorobreds amassed 16 hits during the contest.
Tayler Floyd hit a grand slam at the fourth inning to extend the Thorobreds lead to 9-2 through four innings. She would go on to lead her team with 5 RBI in four at bats.
Kamaria Hurse,
Lisuanet Flores and
Tanisha Valdez hit triples in the game, while
Kayla West and Hollom added doubles. Rhaelee Ellis paced the Thorobreds with three hits and notched two RBIs.
Game Three: LeMoyne Owen – 2 Kentucky State – 21, 5 innings
Kentucky State scores in five straight innings to defeat LeMoyne Owen 21-2 while accumulating 20 hits.
In the fourth inning Floyd hit a two-run home run to put the Thorobreds up by 10 (12-2) in the fourth inning.
At the top of the fifth Valdez hit a home run to add three of the nine runs during the inning.
Hurse was dominant at the plate hitting two triples on three hits while batting in three runners and scoring three runs.
Ellis continued to have a strong performance going 4-of-4 at the plate score three runs and one RBI.
Game Three: LeMoyne Owen – 2 Kentucky State – 5
Homers by Valdez in the first and Flores in the fifth led to 5-2 defeat of LeMoyne-Owen and a flawless 4-0 series sweep.
Both Jones and Valdez at doubles during the contest as Flores led the way with 2 hits.
