FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State women's basketball fought until the finish to defeat Lane College 81-70 Saturday afternoon inside the Exum Center.
Making seven shots from the field and six free-throws
Gracen Kerr led Kentucky State with 21 points. Along with leading in points she led her team with six rebounds and four assists.
Erica Jones led Kentucky State with six steals and one block.
Dilworth score the first points for Kentucky State and tied the game 2-2 at the 8:46 mark of the first quarter. The Thorobreds went on an 20-3 that led to a 20-5 lead with 2:30 left in the quarter. Lane finished the final 1:32 scoreless to give Kentucky State a 22-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Narrowly outscoring the Dragons 19-16 in the second quarter and 12 points from Kerr led to a 41-27 Kentucky State first half lead.
Things stayed high close in the third as Lane outscored Kentucky State 24-22, but the Thorobreds would maintain a 63-51 lead at the end of the quarter.
Hilani Cantone ended a brief Lane run on three-pointer as 3:01 remained in the fourth quarter. Kentucky State successfully fended off Lane, securing a victory with a final score of 81-70.
Home play will continue for Kentucky State on Monday, Feb. 5 at 5:30 p.m. the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians.
