FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State men's basketball controls both first and second half to defeat Central State 89-77 for mini-homecoming, securing a regular season sweep of the Marauders.
Joseph Owens made eight shots from the field to lead the Thorobreds with 20 points alongside leading with nine rebounds.
Ogien Ayo matched Owens with nine rebounds as well.
Going 3-of-4 from the three-point line and 4-of-5 at the charity stripe led to 17 points from
Brandon Hill, he also led Kentucky State with four assists.
Three Thorobreds also scored in double figures that included
Lavar Miller Jr. (14),
Ogien Ayo (13) and
Aziel Blackwell (12).
At the 12:54 mark in the first half, Owens sunk two free-throws, extending Kentucky State's lead to 21-10.
Hill converted his and one attempt to bring the Thorobreds to give the Thorobreds a 44-37 advantage at the end of the first half.
Justin Edmonson was fouled on his offensive rebound and set to the line where he made both of his free-throws to secure a 76-63 with 6:46 remaining in the second half. These free-throws earned the largest second half lead of 12 points for Kentucky State.
Scoring 22 points in the paint and the Thorobreds bench scoring 16 points in the second half, Kentucky State would defeat rival Central State 89-77.
On Monday, Feb. 19 the Thorobreds will host non-conference opponent Charleston at 5:30 p.m. inside the Williams Exum Center.
