FRANKFORT, Ky. – After a deadlocked first half, Tuskegee outscored Kentucky State in the second half to defeat the Thorobreds 76-61, Wednesday night.
Lavar Miller Jr. made five three-pointers and seven shots from the field to lead Kentucky State with 22 points.
Aziel Blackwell reached double figures for the fifth time this season, scoring 20 points and shooting 11-of-15 from the free-throw line.
The Golden Tigers came out strong, opening the game with six unanswered points before Miller put Kentucky State on the board with a free throw at the 15:17 mark.
Miller Jr. later sparked an 8-0 run with a three-pointer at 5:53, complemented by a free throw from
Cordell Livingston, giving the Thorobreds a brief lead. However, Tuskegee responded with a free throw to even the score at 19-19 with 5:32 left in the first half.
The teams traded baskets in a tightly contested final seven minutes, heading into halftime deadlocked at 28-28.
At 15:25 of the second half, Tuskegee used a 10-2 run to surge ahead, taking a 49-43 lead.
A three-pointer pulled the Thorobreds within two of the Golden Tigers, cutting the lead to 53-51 with 8:41 left in the game.
Tuskegee then pulled away from Kentucky State, securing a 76-61 victory.
The Thorobreds will remain at home as they close out their 2024 home schedule to Albany State on Saturday, Dec. 7th at 3 p.m. inside the Exum Center.
