Kentucky State Falls Short in Thriller Against Thomas More

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State University battled to the final buzzer but fell just short against Thomas More 74-71, despite standout performances from Lavar Miller Jr. and Aziel Blackwell.
 
Miller Jr. led the Thorobreds (3-2) with 29 points, sinking seven three-pointers on 10 attempts, and added five rebounds.
 
Blackwell contributed 20 points and five boards, going 6 of 10 from the free-throw line.
 
The Thorobreds showcased their perimeter shooting, hitting 10 three-pointers, but struggled inside the paint, managing just 10 points compared to the Saints' 42.
 
Thomas More (4-1) relied on balanced scoring, led by Kai Simpson's 13 points and Mitchell Rylee's 11 points and seven rebounds. The Saints took control in the paint and scored 42 points while converting 62% of their field goals inside.
 
The Thorobreds kept the game close by capitalizing on turnovers, scoring 20 points off Thomas More's 17 miscues. However, the Saints controlled the rebounding battle 34-25, including key defensive boards in the closing minutes.
 
Kentucky State will remain at home and host SIAC opponent Savannah State on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 3 p.m. inside the Exum Center.
