CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Kentucky State women's basketball team couldn't overcome a strong start by Lee University, falling 77-54 on Saturday in Cleveland, Tennessee.
Aaliyah Hayes went 75% (3-of-3) from the field, 66% (2-of-3) the three-point line and 4-of-6 at the free-throw line to lead the Thorobreds with 12 points.
Khalia Bryant led grabbed five defensive and six offensive rebounds to lead both teams with seven rebounds.
Naja Fenelon and
Brittany Campbell grabed six rebounds each as well.
Lee took control early, holding Kentucky State to just eight points in the first quarter to take a 14-8 lead. The Flames extended their advantage in the second quarter with a 9-0 run at the 3:43 mark, heading into halftime up 37-19.
Turnovers hurt the Thorobreds in the third quarter, with eight giveaways leading to 11 points for Lee. The Flames ended the period with a commanding 63-38 lead.
Although the Thorobreds outscored the Flames 16-14 in the fourth quarter that wouldn't be enough to overcome the strong start of the Flames.
Kentucky State will host Thomas More on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 5:30 p.m. inside the Exum Center.
