FRANKFORT, Ky. – Khalia Bryant recorded her 500th career rebound and posted a double-double in Kentucky State women's basketball 71-61 loss to Trevecca Nazarene on Tuesday night at the William Exum Center.
Bryant made five shots from the field for 10 points and led the Thorobreds with 11 rebounds.
Mondrea Williams led Kentucky State with 14 points, going 3-for-4 from the free-throw line, hitting one 3-pointer, and making five field goals. She also added six rebounds in the contest.
Jeana Weatherspoon scored 12 points on a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line and led the Thorobreds with two assists and two blocks.
The Trojans seized an early lead with a 9-2 run, pulling ahead 11-4 with 4:53 left in the first quarter.
Bryant found her groove in the opening period, hitting 3 of 4 shots from the field. Diana McBroom's three-point play gave the Thorobreds an 18-14 edge by the end of the quarter.
At the 7:03 mark in the second quarter, Bryant collected an offensive rebound for her 500th career rebound.
The Thorobreds continued to build on their first-quarter momentum with a 20-3 run, highlighted by two free throws from
Jeana Weatherspoon at 6:19, pushing Kentucky State to a 33-26 halftime lead.
Trevecca began to chip away at Kentucky State's advantage in the third quarter, going on an 8-2 run to come within one point, trailing 35-34 with 7:00 left.
With 2:34 remaining in the third, the Trojans sparked an 8-0 run, tightening the Thorobreds' lead to 45-43. A late layup by the Trojans briefly gave them a 50-49 edge before
Bailey Ford's layup helped Kentucky State reclaim a 53-50 lead entering the fourth quarter.
In the closing minutes of the fourth, a strong push from Trevecca lifted the Trojans to a 71-61 victory over the Thorobreds.

Kentucky State will commence their conference play on Saturday, Nov. 16, hosting Fort Valley State at 1 p.m. in the Exum Center.
