JACKSON, Tenn. – Kentucky State women's volleyball dominates Miles (3-15, 3-8 SIAC) with six blocks and 37 kills to sweep the Golden Bears 3-0 in their second match and split the first day of the SIAC Cluster at Lane with 3-0 loss to Spring Hill (16-7, 14-0 SIAC), Friday in Jackson, Tennessee.
In Friday's opening match against the Spring Hill Badgers controlled to the match taking the both the first and second sets 25-10. The Badgers earned the shutout (3-0) with a 25-14 third set win.
The first set of their second match against Miles was intense, as
Camri Goodwin had three consecutive kills to give the Thorobreds an early 5-2 lead. Miles responded with three points to tie the set 5-5 and jumped ahead briefly before a kill by
Timaia Sugars tied the match 7-7. Both teams would tie the nine more times that was followed with a kill from
Randi Neal and an attack error by the Golden Bears led to 26-25 first set win.
Strong play continued into the second set with 10 consecutive points from Kentucky State that included a pair of service aces from
Amber Gregory, two kills from
Jaicee Corcoran along with a kill from both
Kyeana Biggs and Neal led to controlling 25-8 second set win.
Three attack errors and a pair of bad sets that included a block from
Leah Tubbs led to an early 6-3 Kentucky State third set lead. This followed with a kill from Corcoran, a service by Tubbs, and attack errors from Miles would lead to a 17-7 advantage for the Thorobreds. The sweep came on a kill by Goodwin and an attack error by the Golden Bears gave Kentucky State a 25-12 third set win and a 3-0 series sweep.
The Thorobreds will complete their time at the Cluster tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 26 against Tuskegee at 10 a.m.
