Aziel Blackwell led Kentucky State with 17 points alongside two assists.
Joseph Owens and
Brandon Hill both scored in the double figures with 15 points.
Lavar Miller Jr. followed with 12 points.
Hill found one from long range to give the Thorobreds a 12-11 at 12:45 in the first half.
The game tied again 21-21 with two made free-throws from
Aziel Blackwell as 9:30 remained in the first half.
A three-pointer by Hill tied the game at 35-35 with just under one minute remaining in the first half. He found another one with just three seconds remaining to give the Thorobreds a 38-36 at halftime.
Central State tied the game 44-44 but Miller made both of his attempts to give Kentucky State a 44-42 lead and was extended to a 46-42 lead on a made layup by Blackwell at 13:24 in the second half.
Jaylen Daughtery found a jumper to extend the Thorobreds to a 10-2 run and a 60-50 lead with 8:35 remaining in regulation.
Central State changed the five on the floor 11 times in the final three minutes of the second half. To no surprise that did not work and 6 points from Kentucky State in the final moments led to an 80-68 victory.
Road play will continue for the Thorobreds as they head to LeMoyne Owen on Monday, Jan. 29 and a midweek contest at Lane on Wednesday, Jan. 31.
