Kentucky State Wins Five Straight Against Central State

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – Kentucky State secures their fifth consecutive victory with a 62-55 win against Central State on Saturday afternoon in Wilberforce, Ohio.
 
Shooting over 83% (10-of-12) from the charity stripe Taleah Dilworth led Kentucky State with 16 points. She also led the Thorobreds with three assists.
 
Erica Jones had a dominating performance earning a double-double of 15 points and 20 rebounds. Jones led the Thorobreds with three steals and two blocks.
 
Gracen Kerr made five shots from the field and two from three-point range score 13 points against Marauders.
 
Kerr scored the first points followed with two points from both Erica Jones and Taleah Dilworth led to an early 6-0 Kentucky State first quarter lead.
 
A three pointer by Kerr jumped the Thorobreds back ahead by 11-10 before a three-pointer from Central State regained their lead. Sydney Thomas found one from long range to take lead back to 14-13 Kentucky State lead at the 3:00 mark of the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter Central State led Kentucky State 20-17.
 
Both teams were low scoring in the second quarter with the Marauders taking a 32-26 lead at halftime.
 
Four points from Kerr led to an 8-0 Kentucky State run and regained a 41-40 lead with 4:08 remaining in the third quarter. Central State scored on a layup in the final seconds to take a 47-43 lead at the end of the third quarter.
 
Dilworth was sent to the line and made both of her attempts to tie the game 47-47 with 7:32 remaining in the fourth. She was sent to the line again and made one of the two attempts to give the Thorobreds a 48-47 lead at the 6:57 minute mark.
 
Jones made both of her shots at the charity stripe to tie and regain a 52-51 Kentucky State lead at the 5:29 mark of the fourth.

In the second half of the fourth quarter the Thorobreds went on a 10-2 run and a layup by Aiseosa Woghiren gave the Thorobreds a 60-53 lead with 23 seconds left in regulation. Dilworth made both of her attempts at the charity stripe to secure a 62-55 lead over Central State.
 
Road play will continue for the Thorobreds as they head to LeMoyne Owen on Monday, Jan. 29 and a midweek contest at Lane on Wednesday, Jan. 31.
