FRANKFORT, Ky. – Over a span of slightly more than two weeks of intensive practice, the Kentucky State University football team has been diligently constructing a robust foundation in anticipation of their inaugural game against the Clark Atlanta Panthers scheduled for August 31st.
 
In the realm of defense, the Thorobreds have showcased steady improvement, with a handful of student-athletes notably shining during the Saturday practice session. Head Coach Huggins shared his observations, stating, "We witnessed standout performances today from individuals such as Jeremiah Owens, Bobby Hayes, and those off the field providing support from the sidelines. I consistently remind our players that even if they are not actively participating, their role as motivators and leaders remains crucial, as they have the ability to inspire their teammates and guide them towards success."
 
Senior Defensive Back Oliver McDowell also made a considerable impression during today's practice, drawing commendation from Coach Huggins, who praised his consistent prowess, remarking, "Oliver, your exceptional abilities define you as a remarkable player. Your unwavering dedication is paramount; you stand as one of the most dominantly physical safeties I have encountered in quite some time. If any opponent dares to challenge you, they will swiftly realize the futility of their efforts."
 
Occasionally, the practice intensity escalated, resulting in heightened competition. Coach Huggins reiterated the team's ethos, emphasizing, "We possess a profound understanding of the importance of mutual respect among teammates. Our collective purpose is to emerge victorious and represent our university to the best of our ability."
 
The impending 2023 season launch for the Thorobreds will unfold within the confines of their home turf, as they host Clark Atlanta for the 2023 SIAC Labor Day Kickoff on August 31 at 7 p.m. The venue, Alumni Stadium, situated in Frankfort, Kentucky, will set the stage for this spectacle.
