FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State baseball falls 9-7 in a lengthy eleven-inning contest, followed by a 4-3 win in the second game of the doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the Western Hills High School in Frankfort, Ky.
Game 1
Miles scored the first run at the top of the third inning, and
Kelton Saylor was able to tie the game 1-1 on a fielding error that sent
Cedric Poellnitz home unearned.
Daniel Moore grounded out on a sacrifice bunt that batted in
Tre Brown, giving Kentucky State a 2-1 lead at the end of the third inning.
The Golden Bears gained back the lead, scoring three runs at the top of the sixth to give Miles a 4-2 lead. Kentucky State responded with a double into right field by
Antonio Chambers that advanced runners on base and allowed
Joseph Esparza to score. Poellnitz singled sending
Jace Wilson home. Brown singled to the left side batting in Poellnitz to regain a 6-4 Kentucky State lead after six innings.
In the seventh inning, three runs by the Golden Bears gave them a 7-6 lead.
Wilson scored on a balk to tie the game 7-7 and send the game into extra innings.
Miles scored two runs at the top of the 11th innings to secure a 9-7 victory.
Game 2
In the opening inning, the Golden Bears scored the contest's first run.
Collier Higgs doubled to left center to send Moore across home plate and tie the game 1-1 at the end of the first inning.
Esparza was walked to send in Brown and give the Thorobreds a 2-1 lead after two innings.
Esparza added his tenth homerun to tie for the most home runs in the season, giving his team a 4-1 lead.
Miles added two runs in the sixth inning, but that wasn't enough to overcome the Thorobreds as they took the game 4-3.
