Tuskegee, Ala. – Kentucky State baseball secured a three-game series sweep over the Tuskegee Golden Tigers in Tuskegee, Alabama.
The Thorobreds opened the series with a 7-5 win and held an 8-3 lead in the second game before play was suspended in the fourth inning. On Sunday, Kentucky State went on to win the second game 11-5 and close out the series with a 7-5 win.
Head coach Robert Henry said following the sweep, "We got strong starting pitching outings from
Eric Turner,
Daccarius Chapman and
Dylan Compton that put us in good position to win this weekend. We got timely hitting and played good defense in beating a tough and scrappy Tuskegee team."
In the first game,
Joseph Esparza continued to hit it out of the park with two home runs and six runners batted in (RBI).
Kelton Saylor added another home run in the first game as well. Esparza, Saylor, and
Tre Brown each tallied two runs that led to a 7-5 win.
Eric Turner secured the win, pitching 6.1 innings with three strikeouts.
After play was suspended after four innings, the Thorobreds would hold on to their lead and defeat the Golden Tigers 11-5.
Isaiah Zepeda-Felix had two hits in four at bats, tallied three RBIs, scored two runs, and led the Thorobreds with 11 putouts. Pitcher
Daccarius Chapman earned the win by striking out nearly half (10-of-25) of the batters he faced in five innings.
Kentucky State secured a 7-5 win in their final game of the series. Esparza, Brown, and
Collier Higgs went 2-of-3 at the plate. Esparza tallied two hits, two RBIs, and ten putouts during the game.
Dylan Compton earned the win by pitching nine innings allowing just three hits.
The weekend of success improved their overall record, 10-8 and 9-4 in the SIAC.
