Baseball Overcome Ten Point Deficit to Defeat Asbury 13-12

FRANKFORT, Ky, - Thorobreds overcome a ten-point deficit to defeat the Asbury Eagles 13-12 in an electrifying ninth inning Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field. 
 
The Eagles led the Thorobreds 10-0 at the end of the second inning, with eight of those runs coming in the first. 
 
Daniel Moore began the rally on a single into left field that batted in Tre Brown to score the first run of the day for Kentucky State. Asbury responded to score in the following inning and led 11-1 at the end of the fourth inning. 
 
In the top of the sixth inning, Asbury scored their final run of the afternoon on a single to left field. Kentucky State answered with seven runs led by Brown was walked with the bases loaded to send Cedric Poellnitz home. Kevin Brown added a run from a sacrifice fly by Moore. Joseph Esparza singled and batted both Brown and Zion Lewis. Jace Wilson sent Esparza and Anthony Chambers on a single to left field. Poellnitz doubled down the left field line to send one runner home and close on the 12-7 Asbury lead. 
 
At the bottom of the 8th inning, Esparza doubled down the right field, advancing Chambers to third, and a throwing error by Asbury sent him home. Jace Wilson singled to center field to bat in Esparza and to come within two of the 12-10 Asbury lead. 
 
Esparza wasn't finished yet; with bases loaded, he doubled to the left and sent Moore, Zepeda-Felix, and Snorton home to secure a 13-12 victory in the bottom of the ninth. 
 
Esparza went .500 (3-of-6) at the plate to tally five RBIs and score two runs.

Kentucky State baseball will travel to Jacksonville, Florida, for a three-game series at conference opponent Edward Waters beginning on Saturday, Feb. 24.
