Wilmore, Ky. – Kentucky State women's basketball defeats the Asbury Eagles 69-55 Tuesday evening in Wilmore, Kentucky.
Laurie Thomas led Kentucky State with 19 points and four assists; she also tallied seven rebounds. Alongside
Laurie Thomas, three more Thorobreds scored in the double-digits,
Jasmine Elder (14),
Taleah Dilworth (11), and
Hilani Cantone (10).
Elder led her team with nine rebounds, followed by Cantone and
Laurie Thomas with seven rebounds.
How It Happened
A three-pointer by
Nya Caruthers led to a 6-0 run and a 20-7 lead to close out the first quarter with a 20-11 lead.
Kerr ended the 7-0 Asbury on a layup to extend the Kentucky State back to a 10-point 28-18 lead with 1:22 remaining in the second quarter.
Laurie Thomas ended the second quarter with a layup giving the Thorobreds a 30-19 at the half.
The Eagles outscored the Thorobreds 16-15, but a strong first half by Kentucky State allowed them to maintain a 45-35 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Cantone made both free throws at 3:01 in the fourth quarter to give the Thorobreds a 59-49 lead.
Kentucky State secured the win on two made free-throws by
Laurie Thomas secured a 69-55 victory.
