FRANKFORT, Ky. – After overcoming multiple ties and lead changes in the second half, Kentucky State women's basketball defeated Allen 78-70, Saturday afternoon in the Exum Center.
 
"We have to protect home court, our 21-6 start in the first quarter was great. We had several players step up today and I'm proud of them." head coach Amani Williams said following the win.
 
Kentucky State would capitalize on early turnovers by Allen as Nya Caruthers scored a three-pointer to give the Thorobreds a ten-point 14-4 lead at 4:25 in the first quarter. The Thorobreds continued to build on turnovers hold the Yellow Jackets to just six points and take a 21-6 lead at the end of the first.
 
Things were tight in the second quarter as Kentucky State narrowly outscored Allen 23-22 but the strong first quarter secured a 44-28 lead at the end of the first half.
 
At the return of the third quarter Allen went on a 25-6 run closing on the 50-44 Kentucky State lead with 4:46.
 
The Yellow Jackets tied the game 52-52 on a jumper at 3:08 in the third quarter, Dilworth would gain back the Kentucky State lead (54-52) making two free-throws. The Thorobreds were able to stay ahead 60-59 at the end of the third quarter.
 
Caruthers hit two back to back three-pointers to extend the Kentucky State lead 66-61 at 6:50 in the fourth quarter.
 
Three points from NaJa Fenelon and two points from Dilworth at the end of the fourth quarter led to a 78-70 Kentucky State victory.
 
Erica Jones continued to show her dominance on the court shooting 7-of-9 from the field to lead the Thorobreds with 17 points and nine rebounds.
 
Kerr found her groove earning a double-double of 16 points and 10 assists as she led her team with 4 steals.
 
A pair of Thorobreds also scored in the double digits Dilworth (14) and Caruthers (12).
