FRANKFORT, Ky. – From start to finish, Kentucky State women's basketball dominates the Lane Dragons 77-57 Wednesday evening inside the William Exum Center.
Kentucky State went on a 17-4 run led by four points from both
Jasmine Elder and
Sydney Thomas that began at 9:19 and ended at 2:31 of the first quarter.
The Thorobreds led the contest with 20 assists compared to only four by the Dragons.
Hilani Cantone and
Gracen Kerr led Kentucky State with four rebounds each.
The Thorobreds outrebounded the Dragons 36-32 as
Laurie Thomas grabbed ten boards and ten points to add another double-double on the season.
Taleah Dilworth was shooting lights out, going 8-of-9 from the field and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe to lead the Thorobreds with 22 points.
Kerr went 5-of-8 from the three-point line to tally 17 points.
How It Happened
Kentucky State got off to a fast start going on a 10-2 run led by three points from both
Gracen Kerr and
Taleah Dilworth, giving the Thorobreds a 10-4 lead at 4:52 in the first quarter.
The Thorobreds held Kept the Dragons scoreless for 2:07 as the drought ended with a Lane three-pointer.
Gracen Kerr hit a three-pointer to end the 6-0 Dragon run to end the first quarter with a 20-13 lead.
As a team, the Thorobreds went 3-of-4 from the field, and Kerr's three-pointer initiated a 5-0 run to extend the Kentucky State 27-19 at 6:14 in the second quarter.
The Thorobreds kept the Dragons scoreless for just over two minutes near the end of the second half. Kentucky State led 35-30 at halftime.
Kentucky State went on a 10-2 run led by five from Dilworth to extend their lead 47-38 at 5:29 in the third quarter.
Another 8-1 Kentucky State run gave them a 48-39 advantage with 3:09 remaining in the third quarter. The Thorobreds led the Dragons 52-46 at the end of the third quarter.
A late 10-2 fourth-quarter run by the Thorobreds secured a 20-point 77-57 victory over the Lane Dragons.
