FRANKFORT, Ky. – On Thursday evening, the Kentucky State women's basketball team defeated non-conference opponent Bluefield State 66-60 inside the William Exum Center.
Kentucky State had two Thorobreds earn double-doubles.
Hilani Cantone led the Thorobreds with 22 points and ten rebounds.
Laurie Thomas earned her double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Gracen Kerr scored in the double digits with 11 points while leading her team with six assists.
How It Happened
Taleah Dilworth scored the contest's first points on a layup, followed by a Bluefield State three-pointer giving the Big Blue a 3-2 lead early in the first quarter.
Gracen Kerr scored on a second chance on a short jumper at 6:12 in the first quarter.
A three-pointer from Cantone gave the Thorobreds an eight-point 11-3 lead, their largest of the quarter.
A short run by the Big Blue brought them to within one of the 11-10 Kentucky State lead at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Big Blue would come to within one twice before the Thorobreds went on an 8-0 scoring run and layup by
Jasmine Elder gave Kentucky State a 36-28 lead at the half.
Just seconds into the third quarter Dilworth scored on a fastbreak layup that extended the Thorobreds to a ten-point 38-28 lead.
The Big Blue would go on an 8-0 run that brought them to within one of the 44-43 Kentucky State lead.
Cantone hit a three-pointer to extend the Kentucky State lead to 49-43 at the end of the third quarter.
Naja Fenelon hit a three-pointer at 8:26 in the fourth quarter to give her team a 54-43 lead.
The Thorobreds would hold off the Big Blue till the end of the fourth quarter to win the game 66-60.
