FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State women's volleyball opened the 2022 season with a 3-0 sweep West Alabama and tough 0-3 loss to Maryville in day one of the Kentucky State University Invitational.
Match 1: University of West Alabama 0, Kentucky State 3

Eileen Butts made her debut with a victory over West Alabama after three strong volleyball sets.
The first set of the match was a thriller with 11 ties and five lead changes, with the Thorobreds maintaining their lead to win the set 25-20.
Kentucky State ran away with a 25-15 second set victory and put the dagger in the Tigers with a 25-19 third set win.
Shaska Davis led both teams with 13 of 33 Kentucky State kills. The Thorobreds dominated in digs with 42 in the match, and three Thorobreds led both teams
Amaya Johnson (13),
Justice Mudd (9), and
Audi Hicks (6).
Kendall Washington led the match with three blocks, two more than the Tigers earned as a team.
Match 2: Maryville 3, Kentucky State 0
In the second match of the day the Thorobreds were defeated 3-0 (25-9,25-15,25-17) by the Maryville Saints.
Johnson co-led the match with 10 digs and her teammate Davis finished in second with eight digs. As a team the Thorobreds led the match with three blocks.
Up Next
Kentucky State will open the final day of the KSU Invitational to Edinboro at 1 p.m. and end the day at 5 p.m. against Ohio Dominican in Bell Gymnasium.
