FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State Baseball extends their conference record to 12-5 after a doubleheader sweep of Lane College.
The Thorobreds defeated the Dragons 12-5 in the first game and continued the sweep with 13-8 win in the second game.
Game 1: Kentucky State 12, Lane College 5
Jared Pierce answered the first of Lane on a home run to right field, tying the game at 1-1 after the first inning.
The Thorobreds scored in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly by
Antonio Chambers, batted in
Byron Famble, and tied the game 2-2.
In the third inning, both teams would tie again at 4-4;
Kelton Saylor and
Adren Thompson added the two runs for the Thorobreds.
Kentucky State controlled the fifth inning scoring four runs. Chambers led the runs with a double to the left-field, sending Thompson home. Pierce hit one deep into left field, allowing Schank and Chambers to score. Dominic Lawson doubled on a line drive to center field, sending his teammate Pierce across home.
Thompson put the nail in the coffin with a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, excelling the Thorobreds to an 11-5 lead. Famble added the final run on a single to center field that batted in Schank to push Kentucky State to a 12-5 victory.
Game 2: Kentucky State 13, Lane College 8
In the first inning, Saylor batted Lawson to score the first run of the inning. Schank singled, sending Saylor home, and Thompson scored on a wild pitch to give Kentucky State a 3-1 lead.
Higgs went yard in the third inning, and Schank hit a sacrifice fly to left field to allow Thompson to score unearned to give Kentucky State a 5-4 lead.
An error by Lane allowed Famble to score unearned and tie the game 6-6 in the fourth inning. The Thorobreds took the lead on a two-run homerun by Lawson to push the Thorobreds to an 8-6 lead.
Lawson hit a grand slam in the fourth inning, and Thompson batted a runner to excel Kentucky State to a 13-7 victory.
