MOBILE, Ala. – A 27-9 fourth-quarter rally by the Kentucky State Thorobreds led to a 65-46 defeat of SIAC opponent Spring Hill College.
Kentucky State kept the Badgers to single digits in the fourth quarter by outscoring Spring Hill 27-9. The offensive effort was led by
Gracen Kerr, who went 6-of-6 from the free-throw line and 2-of-3 from the field to score ten points.
The Thorobreds earned their most significant lead of 19 points and held the lead for 9:48 in the fourth quarter.
Kerr led Kentucky State with 17 points, five assists, and five rebounds. Henderson hit double figures scoring 14 points, and led her team with eight points.
How It Happened
Spring Hill's Paige Taylor scored six points in the first quarter, shooting 75% from the field to give her team a 13-7 lead.
Early in the second quarter
Hilani Cantone made a three-point jumper to bring the Thorobreds to within three (13-10, SHC – 9:51). The Thorobreds would fight until the final moments with a three from
Hannah Henderson, allowing her team to outscore the Badgers 15-12.
A solid second-quarter by Kentucky State limited the Badgers
lead to a three-point lead of 25-22 at halftime.
At 8:18 in the third quarter, Thorobreds took a 26-25 lead on a lay-up. The Badgers would tie the game 26-26 at 8:06, but
Hilani Cantone would take back the lead on a lay-up giving Kentucky State a 28-27 lead at 7:44.
Taylor Robinson extended the Thorobreds to a five-point 32-27 (6:04) lead their largest of the third quarter on a mid-range jumper. The score would change four times, with the Thorobreds holding a 38-37 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Both Kerr and Henderson would turn the heat up in the fourth quarter, assisting with a 19 point 65-46 lead at 1:04 in the fourth from a pair of made attempts from the free-throw line. Iyanna Bonner would put the dagger in the badgers on a lay-up giving Kentucky State a 65-46 victory.
