ST. THOMAS, US Virgin Islands – Kentucky State men's basketball will head to the US Virgin Islands for the YES US Virgin Islands Basketball Classic. The classic is scheduled from Dec. 31 – Jan. 3 as the Thorobreds will play the winner of the West Virginia State vs Clinton on Monday, January 1 at 9 a.m. AST. 
 
There will be eight teams in attendance alongside Kentucky State, Elizabeth City State University, Point Park University, Fisk University, Virginia State University, Edward Waters University, Clinton College, and Tusculum University.
 
Kentucky State will be entering the classic on a five-game win streak that has them at 6-1 overall. The Thorobreds are at the top of the SIAC West as they are 5-1 in league play. 
 
The Thorobreds defeated league opponent Albany State 79-75 in their last matchup. Jay Murrell led Kentucky State with 27 points and tallied seven rebounds. Kong Kong tallied 12 points and led his team alongside Tyson Brooks with eight rebounds.
