FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State bounces back from single digit second quarter, outscoring the Albany State Golden Rams 26-7 in the third quarter to win the contest 57-53, Saturday afternoon at the William Exum Center.
Albany State scored the first three points before
Gracen Kerr put the Thorobreds on the board with a three-pointer. The Thorobreds built a seven-point 10-3 lead on a three-pointer by
Taleah Dilworth at 5:16 in the first quarter. Two made free throws by the Golden Rams brought them to within two of the 14-12 Kentucky State lead at the end of the first quarter.
A jump shot by Albany State tied the game 14-14 early in the second quarter. The Golden Rams would go on a 10-point run and lengthened their lead to 34-20 by the end of the second quarter.
Kentucky State would begin to attack the 15-point Albany State lead on a ten-point run as
Nina Blade tied the game 37-37 on a layup at 1:46 in the third quarter. In one minute, the game would tie twice, and a three-pointer from
Sydney Thomas and a jump shot in the paint by Kerr gave the Thorobreds a 46-41 lead at the end of the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Golden Rams came to within one early in the fourth quarter before Kentucky State would go on a short run to lead the game by seven on a jump shot outside the paint by Blade at 3:55 in the fourth. The Thorobreds would fend off the Golden Rams and win the contest 57-63.
Kerr led the Thorobreds with 14 points and four assists, and her teammate Dilworth went 75% from the charity stripe to score ten points.
