Box Score FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State men's basketball rallied in the second half to defeat the Albany State Golden Rams 79-75 Saturday afternoon in the William Exum Center.
Jay Murrell led Kentucky State with 27 points going 8-of-10 from the field and 8-of-9 at the free-throw line.
Kong Kong nearly had a double-double as he scored 12 points and tallied eight rebounds.
As a team, the Thorobreds were efficient, shooting 58.8% at the free-throw line and 46.4% from the field and leading the contest with 36 points in the paint, 32 points from their bench, 27 points from fast breaks, 17 points from turnover and 15-second chance points.
How It Happened
Kong scored the first on a fast break dunk assisted by
Montrell Jacobs. Albany State answered and tied the game 2-2 on a layup. The game tied one more time before the Golden Rams jumped ahead on a three-pointer by Malik Parker.
The Golden Rams went on an 11-point run to lead the game 14-3 at 14:14 in the first half.
Jay Murrell made both free throws to bring the Thorobreds to within four of the Golden Rams. In the final moments of the first half, Albany State hit a three-pointer to go into the half with a 41-30 lead.
A fastbreak dunk by Kong brought the Thorobreds to within eight of the Golden Rams with 18:12 remaining in the second half.
Murrell scored hit a three-pointer to give Kentucky State 72-70 with just 2:07 remaining in the second half. A made free-throw by
Massamba Dioum secured a 79-75 victory.
