FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky State Football team will travel to Nashville, Tennessee Saturday, September 18th, to play Division I opponent Tennessee State at Nissan Stadium. The kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CT with the game being broadcasted on ESPN+.
 
The Thorobreds (1-1) are coming off a close 25-26 loss last Saturday vs. Kentucky Wesleyan, while the Tigers fell at the Southern Heritage Classic 38-16 to Jackson State. 
 
THE OPPONENT
Headed into the 2021 Football Season, the Tennessee State Tigers named Eddie George as their new head coach. The Tigers 2021 campaign began at the Black College Hall of Fame with a 16-10 loss to Grambling State. In their second contest of the season, the Tigers met Jackson State at the Southern Heritage Classic with a tough 38-16 loss.
 
DEFENSIVE FORCE
The Thorobreds defense is ranked in numerous categories amongst all NCAA DII Football Programs: T-7th Team Sacks: 5 avg. Sacks per game; T-17th Tackles for Loss: 9.5 Tackles for Loss Per Game; 46th Opponent 3rd Down Conversion: .286 Opp. Conversion. Jimmy Edmonds is ranked T-35th in Sacks with two solo sacks and one sack assist.
 
ALL AROUND OFFENSE
The Kentucky State Football Offense shows strength in different categories within all NCAA DII Football Programs: 8th Time of Possession: 35 minutes per game; T-34th Passing Efficiency: 155.01; 23rd Rushing Offense: 4.18 Yds/Rush. Senior Jonatan Ward is 25th in the nation in punting, with an average of 39.70.
 
 
LAST TIME OUT
In a complex 25-26 loss to in-state opponent Kentucky Wesleyan the Thorobreds saw a majority of their success through Jaylen Myers, who completed 75% of his passes 12 Cmp. 16 Att. and threw two touchdowns. Jordan Level led the Thorobreds with three receptions for 43 yards. Darrel Dorris Jr. led the defensive side with six total tackles, two solo, and four assists. Ja'cione Fugate earned one interception.
 
THOROBREDS WIN CLASSIC FOR COLUMBUS
The Kentucky State Thorobreds returned with a big non-conference 20-6 win against rival Central State. On the offensive side of the ball, the Thorobreds total offensive yards came entirely from their 322 rushing yards.
