FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky State Softball team defeated the Alice Lloyd Eagles 4-2 in the first game of their doubleheader at State Stadium in downtown Frankfort, Kentucky.
Academy Sports + Outdoors partnered with the Kentucky State University Athletic Department to present the Frankfort Recreation Youth Softball League with a $500 donation after the first game.
The doubleheader would close with a tough 7-14 loss to the Alice Lloyd Eagles.
How it Happened:
Game 1 (KYSU won 4-2) In the first two at-bats, both
Kailen Olison and
Olivia Saylor would put runs on the board in the first inning.
Tanisha Valdez would secure a home run in the fourth inning, and
Imani Reed would cross home plate to extend the Thorobreds lead to 4-1 after four innings. The Eagles would respond late in the seventh inning with one run, but that wouldn't be enough to stop the Thorobred's.
GAME 2 (KYSU lost 7-14) Olison would score a run in the first inning early, forcing the Eagles to respond with two runs and take a 2-1 lead at the end of the first. Reed and Valdez would score one run each to close on the gap on the Eagles 4-3 lead at the end of four. Olison and Valdez would score in the fifth inning, and the Eagles would extend their lead 8-5 after five.
Brooklyn Black and
Rosemary Rodriguez would put the final runs on the board for the Thorobreds in the sixth inning. The final contest would conclude with a 7-14 loss.
Up Next The 2021 season will come to a close as the Thorobreds salute their seniors this Sunday, May 2nd, against Walsh (Ohio). The games are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. inside State Stadium in downtown Frankfort, Kentucky.
