Thorobreds Earn One Win and Numerous Top-5 Finishes in Season Opener

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Kentucky State opens its indoor season with a pair of wins and several top-5 finishes at the 2021 Fred Wilt Open at the Lambert Fieldhouse on Saturday.

Ma'Rico Holland led the Thorobreds sweep of the one mile with a 4:59.33, and Camerie Cooper finished second with a 4:59.62.

Amani Wagner opened her season with a third-place finish in the women's shot put after a throw of 41"10'/12.75m. Her teammate Kayla Groves had a throw of 27"1.75'/8.27m. In the women's weight throw, she earned fourth with a throw of 53"8.25'/16.36 m.

Holland's success continued with a second-place finish in the men's 800 meter, completing the run with 2:15.82.

In the men's 200-meter dash, Jordon Ferguson earned third with 24.55, and Kaleb Cunningham secured fourth with a 29.90.

In the men's triple jump, Cochran finished third, clearing 40"10.5'/12.46m.
Arinn Hayes finished fifth in the women's long jump, clearing 16"5.75'/5.02m.
Nigel Cochran secured a seventh-place finish in the men's long jump after a 21"8.25'/6.61m jump.

In the men's 300-meter dash, Cochran finished fifth with a time of 37.66, his teammate Austin Stuckey earned seventh after a time of 39.07, and Kaleb Cunningham finished ninth with a 43.76

TyAna Claycomb secured second in the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 30.07.

Princess Morris ran a 47.04 in the women's 300-meter dash to secure sixth.
Cooper earned fourth in the men's 600-meter run with a time of 1:32.57.

Both Teams will participate in the Jim Green Invitational on January 14-15 at the Nutter Field House in Lexington, Kentucky.
