COLUMBIA, S.C. – Kentucky State women's basketball drops league matchup at Benedict 66-51, Saturday afternoon in Columbia, South Carolina.
In the final moments of the second half, the Allen Yellow Jackets defeated Kentucky State 62-60, Thursday night in Columbia, South Carolina.
Three consecutive three-point shots put Kentucky State ahead 9-7, early in the first quarter.
Hannah Henderson led the run with two long-range shots, and
Sydney Thomas supported the run with one three-point shot.
A 12-3 run late in the first quarter allowed the Thorobreds to lead 15-12.
Defensively Kentucky State would keep Benedict scoreless for 3:59 in the second quarter, allowing just 11 points. The Thorobreds held a 33-23 lead at the break. Henderson led Kentucky State with 11 points in the first half, with
Andrea Wallace and
Laurie Thomas earning four rebounds each.
A 13-3 Benedict run would tie the game 36-36 at the 5:37 mark of the third quarter. A mid-range jumper at 2:18, by
Taylor Robinson, would end the scoring drought for the Thorobreds. Kentucky State would close out the third quarter on a 5-0 run and trail Benedict 45-53 going into the fourth quarter.
Kentucky State would open the fourth quarter holding Benedict scoreless for 1:22.
Taleah Dilworth would capitalize on an administrative technical going two-of-two to bring the Thorobreds to within 8 of the Tigers at 8:02 in the fourth. Benedict would lead the fourth quarter and win the contest 58-53.
Dilworth led Kentucky State with 16 points and three steals; her teammate Henderson was right behind her with 12 points. Wallace led the Thorobreds with eight rebounds.
