Big innings hurt baseball

The Kentucky State University baseball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to Oakland City Sunday as the Mighty Oaks used a big inning in each game for the sweep.

Kentucky State (12-6-1) travels to Harrogate, Tenn. for a non-conference doubleheader with Lincoln Memorial.

COACHES COMMENTS
"Good teams have bad days and today was one for us," said Kentucky State University baseball coach Rob Henry. "They got on a roll in the final inning of game one and we just couldn't stop them. Our job now is to bounce back against a very good Lincoln Memorial program and our conference opening weekend at Benedict."

GAME ONE: OAKLAND CITY 12, KENTUCKY STATE 9
Oakland City scored eight runs in the top of the seventh inning for the comeback win in the opener of the twinbill.

THE MOMENT THAT MATTERED
The first three batters of the seventh inning reached via walk for Oakland City. A single and an error kept the rally going, and two-out triple gave the Mighty Oaks the lead.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
Junior Jared Pierce (Lexington, Ky.) was the lone player with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a double, home run, a run scored and a RBI. It was the first career long ball for Pierce.

Junior Dom Lawson (Bloomfield, Ky.), senior Chance Egnor (Shepherdsville, Ky.) and junior Adren Thompson (Lexington, Ky.) all had two RBI in the opener.

Three different players – freshman Kelton Saylor (Rossville, Ind.), Lawson and sophomore Aram Kumar (Georgetown, Ky.) – scored two runs each.

Sophomore Solomon Reed (Cincinnati, Ohio) allowed four earned runs on five hits in five innings of work with six strikeouts. Freshman Jonathan Morris, 0-1, (Lexington, Ky.) suffered the loss in relief, allowing seven runs, three earned, on just one hit in 1 2/3 innings. He walked four and struck out three.

BRED BITS
Seven different players recorded a hit for the Thorobreds.

Coming into the game, Pierce's lone career extra-base hits were a pair of triples. He had his first career double and home run for just his second multi-hit contest.

Kentucky State pitching recorded 10 strikeouts and 10 walks.

GAME TWO: OAKLAND CITY 16, KENTUCKY STATE 6
An early hole was too much to overcome for the Thorobreds in the second game as Oakland City tallied seven first-inning runs on the way to the 16-6 win.

THE MOMENT THAT MATTERED
Kentucky State committed two errors which led to five unearned runs in the top of the first inning. Oakland City finished with seven runs in the first inning and never trailed.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
Lawson went 3-for-4 with a run scored and RBI, while Egnor was 2-for-3 with a home run, a run scored and a RBI.

Pierce continued his hitting tear with his third straight multi-hit game. He recorded two hits in four plate appearances.

Kumar recorded the only other Kentucky State RBI.
