HARRODGATE, Tenn. – The Kentucky State University baseball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to Lincoln Memorial Wednesday.
Kentucky State (12-8-1) travels to Columbia, S.C. to open Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action with a doubleheader Saturday against Benedict.
COACHES COMMENT
"We put ourselves in a hole early in each game today and you can't do that against good people and expect to be successful," said Kentucky State University head coach
Rob Henry. "They took advantage of early free bases and were never really gave ourselves a chance to get going. We've been reminded of some important lessons these last few games. It's time to get some things fixed heading into conference play."
GAME ONE: LINCOLN MEMORIAL 15, KENTUCKY STATE 3
Kentucky State recorded three hits in the first game of its non-conference twin bill in falling to Lincoln Memorial.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
Sophomore
Josh Graves (Springfield, Ky.) went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. His two-run home run in the seventh inning was his first long ball of the season.
Sophomore
Jace Wilson (Shepherdsville, Ky.) was 1-for-2, while senior Kevin Givhan (Chicago, Ill.) recorded a stolen base.
Freshman
Lucas Schank, 1-1, (Shepherdsville, Ky.) allowed 10 runs, four earned, on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. He walked seven, hit two and recorded a strikeout.
BRED BITS
Graves' seventh-inning homer was the second home run of his career. It was also his third extra-base hit of the season.
Freshman
Brandon Ethington (Shelbyville, Ky.) recorded the first hit of his career, a pinch-hit single in the seventh inning. It was just his second plate appearance of the year.
Freshman
Kelton Saylor (Rossville, Ind.) registered two of Kentucky State's five walks.
GAME TWO: LINCOLN MEMORIAL 7, KENTUCKY STATE 1
Junior
Adren Thompson (Lexington, Ky.) had two hits as the Thorobreds fell to Lincoln Memorial in the nightcap.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
Thompson was 2-for-3 with a double for his sixth multi-hit game of the season.
Redshirt freshman
Trey Walker (Farmington Hills, Mich.) was 1-for-3 with the team's lone RBI, driving in junior
Dom Lawson (Bloomfield, Ky.) with a seventh-inning single.
Wilson, Givhan and junior
Byron Famble (Cincinnati, Ohio) also tallied hits for the Thorobreds. It was the first hit of the season for Famble.
Sophomore
Dashawn Hureskin, 3-2, (Benton Harbor, Mich.) allowed three unearned runs on no hits in two innings of work. He walked four and struck out one.
BRED BITS
Thompson has recorded a hit in nine of the last 11 games, four of those nine were multi-hit contests.
Famble has reached base in five of his eight games.
Sophomore
Aram Kumar (Georgetown, Ky.) didn't allow a run in his first career mound appearance. The starting shortstop allowed one hit with one walk in his cameo performance.
