Box Score 2 SUMTER, S.C. – The Kentucky State University softball team finished the SIAC/CIAA softball challenge 3-1 after winning both games Sunday.
Kentucky State (3-5 overall) returns to action March 3, hosting Bellarmine at State Stadium.
GAME ONE: KENTUCKY STATE 9, VIRGINIA UNION 4
Kentucky State scored five runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the sixth inning for the victory.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Junior Moana Pinner (Hilo, Hawaii) went 2-for-3 with a triple, home run, one run scored and four RBI. She was the only player with multiple hits.
- Junior Kailen Olison (Moreno Valley, Calif.) scored a pair of runs with two RBI.
- Freshman Alexis Menifee, 1-1, (Lexington, Ky.) earned her first career victory, allowing four runs – two earned – with seven hits over seven innings of work.
BRED BITS
- Eight of the nine batters drew a walk for the Thorobreds.
- The middle of the lineup, hitters 3 thru 5, were 4-for-8 with four runs scored and six RBI.
GAME TWO: KENTUCKY STATE 8, BOWIE STATE 6
Kentucky State scored seven of its eight runs over the first three innings and held on for the 8-6 victory Sunday.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Eight of the team's nine batters recorded hits with Olison and junior Sidney Campbell (Ashland, Ky.) registering two hits each. Olison was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI, while Campbell was 2-for-3.
- Freshman Kendall Collier, 2-4, (Nashville, Tenn.) earned the victory, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits over seven innings.
BRED BITS
- Seven of the team's nine batters drove in runs in the team victory.
- Big innings have aided KSU during its three-game winning streak. The Thorobreds have six innings in which they have scored at least three runs.
