Box Score 2 SUMTER, S.C. – The Kentucky State University softball team split a pair of games at the SIAC/CIAA softball challenge Saturday. The Thorobreds fell to Claflin, 8-0, before beating Johnson C. Smith, 11-10.
GAME ONE: CLAFLIN 8, KENTUCKY STATE 0
Four different players tallied hits for Kentucky State, but the Thorobreds opened the inter-conference softball challenge with an 8-0 loss to former SIAC foe Claflin.
Claflin tallied two runs in the second inning, three runs in the third and three runs in the fourth for all of the scoring.

Sasha Allen (West Covina, Calif.), junior
Moana Pinner (Hilo, Hawaii), freshman
Kendall Collier (Nashville, Tenn.) and senior
Katie Arbec (Louisville, Ky.) had singles for KSU.
Collier (1-4) allowed eight earned runs on nine hits with one strikeout in five innings of action.
GAME TWO: KENTUCKY STATE 11, JOHNSON C. SMITH 10
Collier's single in the bottom of the seventh inning capped a three-run inning as the Thorobreds came back for the 11-10 victory in the nightcap.
Back-to-back homers from Pinner and junior
Kailen Olison (Moreno Valley, Calif.) got the inning going. Sophomore
Olivia Saylor (Lancaster, Ky.) singled and moved to third on a freshman
Tanisha Valdez (Maui, Hawaii) double. Saylor scored the game-winning run on Collier's single.
Kentucky State fell behind 6-0 after two innings before embarking on its comeback tour.
The first six batters singled or walked to start the third inning. Olison singled home a pair of runs and then Barter stole home for a third run. Valdez brought home another run with a bases loaded fielder's choice and a Collier single pulled KSU to within 6-5.
Both teams tallied runs in the fourth inning before Kentucky State took lead with a pair of runs – thanks to an Olison bases-loaded walk and a Pinner single – in the fifth inning.
JCSU reclaimed its lead with three runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Olison and Pinner combined for seven RBI as Pinner went 4-for-5 with three RBI and Olison was 3-for-4 with four RBI.
The Thorobreds pounded out 22 hits as Allen added three hits with junior
Rosemary Rodriguez (El Mirage, Ariz.), Saylor, Valdez and junior
Sidney Campbell (Ashland, Ky.) recording two hits.
Kentucky State (1-5) continues in the SIAC/CIAA challenge, playing Virginia Union 10 a.m. Sunday and Bowie State noon Sunday.
