WBB loses to LeMoyne-Owen

The Kentucky State University women's basketball team fell to LeMoyne-Owen College Saturday, 76-57, in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action at the William Exum Center.

It snapped a two-game winning streak and the Thorobreds are now 7-15 overall, 4-11 in the SIAC. LeMoyne-Owen improves to 10-12 overall, 6-8 in the SIAC.
 
Kentucky State hosts Miles College 5:30 p.m. Monday in SIAC action.
 
TURNING POINT
LeMoyne-Owen scored 11 of the first 13 points in the third quarter as the Magicians turned a six-point halftime deficit into a six-point lead. Kentucky State was outscored 35-10 in the pivotal third period.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
Junior Erica Jones (South Haven, Miss.) continues a torrid stretch with a team-high 18 points and eight rebounds. She is averaging 18.6 points in the last three games.
 
Senior Victoria Blankenship (Fayetteville, N.C.) added 14 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while senior Carnethia Brown (Louisville, Ky.) recorded 12 points and a team-high three steals.
 
COACH SPEAK
"Today was a tough loss," said Kentucky State associate head coach Latear Eason. "We didn't come out and execute the game plan. We had a hard time defending the three ball tonight. I give credit to LeMoyne-Owen, they shot the ball well tonight. We will learn from this loss and continue to work hard and get better."

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
  • Three different players – senior Amani Williams (Scotch Plains, N.J.), Brown and Jones – all had two assists.
  • Both teams had 10 steals and turned the ball over 17 times. Kentucky State scored 20 points off turnovers and had 10 second-chance points.
  • LeMoyne-Owen missed just one shot (11-of-12) from the floor and was 7-of-8 from three-point range in the third quarter.
  • The Thorobreds shot a season-high 82.4 percent (14-of-17) from the foul line. Jones (8-of-9) and Blankenship (6-of-8) were the only two players to attempt a free throw for Kentucky State.
