WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Kentucky State University women's basketball, for the fourth straight game, had the ball with a chance to win or tie, but was unable to secure the win as the Thorobreds fell to Central State, 54-51, Saturday in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
Kentucky State falls to 4-10 overall, 1-6 in the SIAC, while Central State improves to 5-10 overall, 3-4 SIAC.
Turning Points
Leading by five points with 1:16 remaining, a six-second stretch turned the game around. Central State is fouled on a basket, secured a rebound and putback off the missed free throw, and then forced a turnover.
Individual Leaders
Senior forward
Victoria Blankenship (Fayetteville, N.C.) scored 13 of her game-high 15 points in the second half. She added nine boards in the loss.
Dealing with foul trouble for most of the game, junior
Erica Jones (South Haven, Miss.) added 13 points – eight in the first quarter – and nine rebounds.

Allenia Ponder played 24 minutes to help stabilize the offense and provide additional depth for the Thorobreds. She led the team in assists and steals.
Central State pulled down 20 offensive rebounds, leading to 16 second chance points. They added 19 points off turnovers.
Kentucky State shot 12 of its 14 free throws in the second half. The Thorobreds didn't attempt a single free throw in the second quarter.
