ALBANY, GA – The Kentucky State University volleyball team remained unbeaten in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover Saturday with a trio of three-set victories. The Thorobreds are 5-0 in the SIAC event with one game remaining.
GAME ONE: KENTUCKY STATE 3, FORT VALLEY STATE 0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-18)
It was a dominated performance for the Thorobreds as every player recorded at least one kill in the straight set dispatching of Fort Valley State Saturday.
Junior
Robin Poole (Katy, Texas) finished with nine kills on 19 attempts with just two errors to lead the KSU offensive attack. Freshman
Brianna Etienne (Houston, Texas) had six kills on 18 attempts with two errors.
Junior
Sasha Bills (Mesa, Ariz.) and sophomore
Jalyn Barnett (Detroit, Mich.) combined for 33 of 41 assists with 19 and 14, respectively.
Ten different players tallied a dig with junior
Oyuky Benitez (Laveen, Ariz.) leading the way with 16 digs. Etienne and sophomore
Mariah Peachey (Liverpool, Ohio) had two blocks each in the victory.
GAME TWO: KENTUCKY STATE 3, PAINE 0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-13)
Kentucky State continues to show their offensive balance as senior
Tapanga Moten (New Orleans, La.) was the offensive leader with 10 kills on 15 attempts. Peachey and Poole finished with nine kills apiece in the win. Poole added a team-high 15 digs for the Thorobreds. Benitez added 12 digs.
Bills nearly missed her fifth double-double of the season with 22 kills and nine digs.
The Thorobreds finished with six service aces as Benitez, Barnett and
Alliyah Williams (Sugar Land, Texas) had two aces each.
GAME THREE: KENTUCKY STATE 3, CLARK ATLANTA 0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-17)
The Thorobreds pushed their SIAC winning streak to nine games, and against every team not named Spring Hill, Kentucky State has won 26 straight with the straight set win over Clark Atlanta.
Freshman
Makayla Berry (Orangeburg, S.C.) and Poole had nine kills each to pace the KSU attack, while Bills and Barnett combined for 24 of the team's 33 assists.
Junior
Jalynn Roberts (Davenport, Iowa) had six kills on 10 attempts with no errors, along with two block solos and four block assists.
Benitez finished with double-figure digs for the 14th straight game and the 15th time this season with 10 total digs.
Kentucky State (11-6 overall, 9-1 SIAC) concludes SIAC Crossover action Saturday with a 10 a.m. meeting against Savannah State University.
