The Kentucky State University volleyball team took a pair of games in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference West Division Cluster to finish the weekend with a 4-1 record.
GAME ONE: KENTUCKY STATE 3, MILES 0 (25-16, 25-9, 25-12)
Extended scoring runs in all three sets enabled the Thorobreds to secure their third straight sweep in conference action.
Senior
Tapanga Moten (New Orleans, La.) led the way with nine kills on 19 attempts and zero errors. She added one block solo and an assisted block.
Junior
Robin Poole (Katy, Texas) and sophomore
Mariah Peachey (Liverpool, Ohio) added seven kills each. Poole contributed six digs, two block assists and two service aces. Junior
Sasha Bills (Mesa, Ariz.) distributed 18 assists, and junior
Oyuky Benitez (Laveen, Ariz.) finished with a team-high 14 digs.)
GAME TWO: KENTUCKY STATE 3, LANE 1 (20-25, 25-12, 25-23, 25-16)
Kentucky State has its nine-set winning streak snapped, but the Thorobreds rebounded to win three straight sets to secure the victory over Lane.
Poole recorded a season-high 16 kills on 41 attempts with five errors, and was the only Kentucky State athlete with double figure kills.
Kentucky State managed to have multiple student-athletes with double digits in assists and digs. Sophomore
Jalyn Barnett (Detroit, Mich.) and Bills finished with 22 and 16 assists, respectively, while Benitez and Williams tabulated 17 and 12 digs, respectively.
Moten was a force with a season-high six blocks, two solo blocks and four block assists.
Kentucky State (5-2) travels to IU-Southeast 6 p.m. Thursday.
