ATLANTA – Kentucky State University redshirt sophomore
Anthony Geter has been named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced today (Tuesday, September 10).
Geter (Memphis, Tenn.) was the lynchpin up front for an offensive line that paved the way for 214 yards on 51 carries in Kentucky State's 13-7 victory over FCS member Robert Morris. In the 51 attempts, KSU only lost yardage on one attempt.
In addition, the offensive line kept quarterback
Jaylen Myers upright as he wasn't sacked in none of his 10 attempts.
On the game-changing drive, a 94-yard, 20-play effort that ate up almost 12 minutes, Kentucky State ran the ball 16 times. The drive culminated in a touchdown at the end of the first half. The Thorobreds had two more extended drives, one that ending in the game-winning score and another that chewed away the final nine minutes of the game.
Kentucky State (1-0) snapped a 12-game losing streak, a four-game losing streak in season openers and knocked off a Division I opponent for the first time since 2002.
The Thorobreds come home 4 p.m. Saturday, hosting SIAC foe Tuskegee. All residents of Frankfort and the surrounding counties will receive free admission. All kids 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Alumni Stadium is a clear bag facility on game day. Clear bags will be available for purchase at the front gate.
